(More customer reviews)I know little to nothing about Evangelion, and I know little about adult figures. Although seemingly childish in the West, collectible figures seem to be quite a craze in Japan, and isn't very hush-hush as it is here in the States. Nevertheless, I've heard quite a bit about Revoltech, so that got me piqued in the Japanese world of collectible figurines. I then came across Robot Spirits ("Robot Damashii"), and, after many reviews preferencing this over Revoltech (including exuberant Actar), I jumped the gun on this figure.
I was not disappointed.
As I've come to learn, Revoltech has some clicky joints, which are good on some figures, but not so on other ones. Bandai's Robot Spirits doesn't have this feature, and I'm glad; Eva-01 does well to articulate smooth and with finesse, and I can only imagine clickiness getting in the way of aesthetics. Even though there are no ratchet joints, the robot stands fine on its own. I was able to put it in virtually any pose, and it stood on its own just fine.
The figure is VERY articulated. Quite possible the most articulated figure I own (though I don't own many). From switchable hands to movable toes, you really can't imagine a pose that Unit-01 isn't capable of pulling off. It also comes with quite a number of accessories, from weaponry to hands, to the umbilical cord and extra head with mouth open (not to mention a couple extra horns in case you lose one).
The figure is made of soft plastic, but is very rigid and extremely well painted. I've heard that the Revoltech has some sloppy paint jobs, but I can't say anything negative about Robot Spirits. Even though I don't own the Revoltech version, I highly recommend this version over that one. I've heard numerous complaints over the Revoltech version before purchase, and I don't regret it. If you like the Revoltech version, then I can only imagine how much better this figure is.
Again, this figure is not for kids. It's 1) expensive, and 2) very fragile. It's actually not as expensive as some other Japanese adult figures go, but in the 5-6" figure scale, it's reasonably priced considering how much bang for your buck you're getting. It's certainly not for kids because they WILL break it, but I really wish my childhood toys came like this figure; it can make for some amazing action poses!
