Robotic Laser Ball Review

Robotic Laser Ball
Average Reviews:

The Robotic Laser ball is pretty fun when you first pull it out of the package, but the fun doesn't last very long.
The Pros. The lights are way cool. They are bright and flash really good. It is nice to see it in the dark. The ball kind of "dances" in a square, which can be good or bad. It doesn't run all over (if thats what you want)
Cons. I don't like how you have to open up the ball (which is plastic) and turn the robot off inside. This really kind of makes it hard to enjoy. The other problem is the Robot serves no purpose outside the ball. It can't move around unless it is in the ball. (the lights can still come on, but then you are holding some robot watching lights spin). Also the Music that the ball is suppose to dance to, is that high pitch electronic sound. Kind of like the beeps a watch makes. At first it is Okay, but considering each Song (and Dance) is like a Minute and a half it gets old pretty quick.
Last you really can't throw the ball around. You probably could roll it around a little bit, but the ball isn't made to get throwing. So really in the end you have to just sit and watch it. Which after the first time through its nice but doesn't last.
I probably would pass on this. I sense have found another product that lights up and can be thrown around more.

Hexbug Nano Microrobot Review

Hexbug Nano Microrobot

Sometimes I get more excited about a toy than my kids. I saw this online and watched a lot of videos on YouTube. I could not help but to get myself one.
The main mechanics in this toy is the vibrating motion. But that is not the amazing part, this toy moves like a real bug. It goes forward and turns depending on the terrain. No problem if it bumps into walls, it just turn and just keep on going and going. Even if you lay it on its back, it just picks up itself like a cat. It just won't run on carpet though. Battery included. Made in China.
There are so many creative things you can do. We built a Duplo obstacles with tunnels, and a labyrinth of puzzles. It just goes to every niche and nooks it can get where it feets bring him. If you put it on the floor, it just runs around everywhere, goes in and out of furniture. My 5-yr-old son even put it inside a box of cereal when I was not looking. I have to dig deep to find it as it burrowed itself into it. Tons of fun. My son now carries it everywhere like a real pet.
The feet and the upper part of the bug are made of rubber. It has 12 legs, 6 on each side. It looks very durable unless somebody intentionally steps on it like a roach. The lower part of the body where it houses a single AG13 button battery is made of hard plastic. The on and off switch is also located there. My son is playing with this almost 2 days nonstop and I am surprised that the battery still going strong. I already ordered a set of 20 batteries for less than three dollars from Amazon.

Hexbug Nano Habitat Set Review

Hexbug Nano Habitat Set

Got this for my 6 year-old. The habitat actually surprised me, I thought they are just cheap pieces of tubes and little hexagon arenas. They are cleverly thought out and well built. You can connect them in so many ways. The 3 hexagons have gates that you can close or open on all 6 sides.
My son's only complaint is that the pieces are somewhat difficult to engage and disengage. But once he got the hang of it, it was OK.
Comes with 2 hexabugs. It is more fun to have more than one hexabugs. We already have 1 green, and then 2 more that came with this set. Ours came with a blue and a rare black bug.
You can also enjoy the bugs even sans the habitat. They are so fun to release them on the wild. Let them run around the table or the hardwood floor. (They don't move as much on carpets). Just watch Youtube videos, they have tons of them. It is like a geek toy, your personal microbots.
The batteries are cheap if you search online. 20 pieces for a few bucks. Each bug uses only 1 battery. You will need a watch type screwdriver to replace it.
