(More customer reviews)As a disclaimer, I should say that I routinely remove batteries from all toys that come into the house -- I just can't deal with hectic noise and movement beyond the kind that comes forth from my 3 kids. Except for this toy.
My son's friend's father got this at a work holiday party -- my toddlers and I played with it for a couple minutes at their house and I couldn't forget about it. I asked him about it so many times that he finally just gave us his.
So, it plays music, has flashing lights, and rolls about in an erratic manner. That sounds nightmarish in a hectic household, but it's not -- the ball is loud and bright enough to be noticed without completely taking over the room.
The music can be turned off, so it can just be a lighted ball rolling erratically, but -- and here's the part I NEVER thought *I'd* say about any 'toy' -- I liked the music. It's a couple different common tunes executed in a non-annoying manner.
The downside . . . if you open it to adjust the settings 27 times a day (as my kids did), the locking mechanism will get worn out. It doesn't like to be thrown (it didn't break, but it wasn't quite it's debonair self afterwards).
Luckily, it's inexpensive enough that I can keep replacing it. And I like it so much that I suspect I will make sure there's always one in the house.

What do you get when you trap a ballistic spinning LED Robot inside a little hampster ball? You get the Robotic Laser Ball Sound Responsive Light Show, an all in one LED Rave toy that has a mind of it's own. Gadgets that light up to musical rhythms are everywhere, but they're generally stationary. That's where the Robotic Laser Ball has them beat. This disco bot actually hits the dance floor on its own and gyrates violently and flashes lights in time to your music. The RoboGyro Light Ball is really one of the neatest new items we have seen in a long time. The ball has an inner unit that gyrates and rotates 360 degrees. In your hand, this means the super-bright green and blue LEDs form wild spinning light patterns in every direction as the inner unit rotates in the ball (don't worry, the ball will stay still when cupped in your hand). Set the ball on the ground though, and it becomes like one of those robotic vacuums, darting off in every which direction, roaming all over the floor by itself until it hits a corner, then zips back out in another direction. The ball even has its own inner music mode, which when set on, makes the ball perform its amazing light show as it roams the floor in sync with its own music! (The music mode can also be muted.) The ball's action is both sound and touch sensitive. It will turn itself off automatically if left alone, but a simple handclap or touch will get things rolling again. Each RoboGyro ball even comes with a sticker sheet to customize the look of your ball. Uses 3 replaceable AA batteries (not included). The ball is about 4" diameter.
